where the sun doesn't shine.
So, Mrs. G. had this idea, you see, and asked if her readers if they would like to blog about a room in their home. I thought, "Sure, whenever I post a photo of my laundry room, people leave nice comments about the orderliness and color." So, my plan was to take photos on Thursday. Little did I know that my cheeriest room would become drabby from a cloudy day, difficult to photograph, and unusually small. Huh. Go figure. Still, I moved forward ... I took photos of all the nooks and crannies, showing off my vintage guide books (birds, insects, etc), a lot of Pyrex, the shelves that theother23 built for me, and the view out of the window.
None of those turned out. Again, go figure.
What almost turned out are photos of a cheap shelving unit that I bought at Target (on a whim) a few years back and a picture of my laundry detergent. (Adding insult to injury, I just tried to resize the original photos and I'm having a computer malfunction; Sorry for the small pics.) Go. Figure. Moments ago, I referenced said post of Mrs. G.'s to see if there were any specifics that I needed to know. JUST THIS!
"Reader, where is the heart of your home? What room in your house makes you breathe easier-makes you feel genuinely content."
MY LAUNDRY ROOM?!! GO FIGURE!
I realize this is a ridiculous post, so I leave you this little consolation prize, a short laundry room story: Theother23 used to leave his shirts inside-out when he put them in with the dirty laundry. So, I started folding his shirts inside-out. He now turns them right-side-out.
Here's the tour:
- Odd array of cookbooks, vintage homemaking books (which I collect) and, oddly enough, a Pilates book.
- Gin, vintage baskets, and vintage chalk.
- A little Pyrex, more homekeeping books and plant books, and a set of vintage mythology/fairy tale books.
- Above-mentioned items plus a drawer that two other people in this house keep filling with heavy junk.

I LOVE that acid green color. I'm having a glass artist fashion a pair of fused glass cufflinks in that color for me! I should send her over her for inspiration!
I love seeing other people's homes. Yours is so CLEAN!
We use the same laundry detergent but that's where the resemblance stops!
@wixer - The Method or the Seventh Generation? I used to be a hard-core Method user, but changed to Seventh Generation last year. Although, if anyone else reads this comment, I recommend both!
OMG. You home is a dust free paradise. can I move in? Method is great and a little less pricey than seventh generation but I like both too. Sometimes I cheat an buy Tide b/c I like the smell. I know. Pathetic.
We use method for most of our cleaning purposes, but for laundry I'm a Tide boy and have been all my life...maybe it's time for a change.
I think that first photo of your laundry room is gorgeous and orderly...serene.
I've always loved your laundry room pictures. And pictures of your Pyrex and vintage book collections.
Home Comforts is an awesome read.
I love the simplicity and order. And the bright colors with the vintage. And the filtering of light. And.. and..
I love these pictures! (They are so NOT lame
)

woah, i could def.ly kick back and read, unwind, and everything else you normally wouldnt do in a laundry room!
can you redo my laundry room? i am able to pay in lint.
every room in our house is too skeery to photograph
I have the same Iron LOL.. but I never use it.
I use to use Seventh Gen.. too just stopped buying and went with cheaper convenient no this and that store brand.
AND.. i do the same thing with how the diry laundry is put in.. if the girls, son or dad put the clothes in the basket rolled up or inside out.. it goes back into the "return to sender" clean laundry basket the same way it came.
so glad to see the "junk" drawer. you're not a cyborg!!
@firephly - I have nothing to do with that drawer ... it's all X and theother23. I clean it out, organize it, and then the next time I open it, they have it stuffed with crap. Makes me SO mad.
I'm still not a cyborg though ... at least not until I get my camera eye. Well, actually, sometimes I say that X and I are cyborgs becaue we have the insulin pumps attached to us all the time.
well, the contrast between your laundry room and my bedroom is enough to almost make me want to clean and organize. mostly i just want it to miraculously happen when i'm not looking.
Seventh Generation.
I WISH any room in my house looked as neat. My laundry room in my apartment doubles as a storage room. Every holiday decoration smashed up against the water heater in a beyond tiny room.
Inside-out shirts? Try inside out socks... that drives me up the wall.
