Month: June 2008

  • EDIT:  I think I fixed the problem.  I found where to change from 'three columns' to 'two columns'.  (Thank you, SuddenlyISee!)  Please let me know if you're still getting 'cut off photos'.  THANK YOU!

    Quick question:

I changed to Xanga themes.  Everything on my end looks good ... I have checked the look on two different computers and three different browsers.  However, a friend on an old Mac says that everything is squished off the page.

Do things on this blog seem funky to anyone else?  (OTHER THAN MY USUAL FUNK!)

  • Peacekeeper

I almost never wear nail polish on my fingers, but I do like something subtle on my toes.  Only, without the chemicals, PLEASE!  Last week at Whole Foods, I bought PeaceKeeper nail paint (in 'Paint Me Tranquil') and Suncoat Natural Nail Polish Remover.  They both ROCK.  (Click on product names for more info.)

I have lost track of how much rain we've had the last three days ... eight inches, maybe?  Either way, I love this weather despite the state of emergency in most counties, the flooded roads, and the rumor I heard about the dam on the verge of breaking.  (Did any other locals hear this?  I was told that it was mentioned on The Weather Channel.)  I do think that it's just a rumor.

    ADDENDUM:

I grew up on the banks of Dell Creek, which empties into Lake Delton.  Lake Delton and the Wisconsin River are the basis for the biggest tourist town within several states, Wisconsin Dells.  My sister lives there and my mom works there.  It is the biggest waterpark destination in the United States.  ANYHOW, Lake Delton overflowed and has almost completely emptied.  The lake tore a new riverway 300 feet wide and 50 feet deep on its way to the Wisconsin River early this morning.  Besides that overflowage, two or three other dams in the immediate area are now failing, including Mirror Lake.  (I've posted lots of photos from Mirror Lake over the years, and there is a Frank Lloyd Wright cottage near there that we've been meaning to rent for a weekend.)  Our county has now met FEMA standards for assistance.  It's absolutely incredible.  All of this extra water will be flowing down the Wisconsin River (towards us), but I expect that we'll be fine ... even if the local dam did go, which I don't think that it will.  This is SO incredible and I can't even begin to describe the devastation.  Wow, wow, wow.

My stepdad, who lives near Reedsburg, called a guy on the other side of his town to see about getting water pumped out of the basement.  The water pumping guy would have to travel over 100 miles out of the way to get to my mom's house because all connecting roads are washed out or flooded.

Some photos from Saturday, but nothing too interesting ...

  • An aside:  While getting ready to do this shoot, X said, "The style of this dress combined with the embellishments make me look like a member of Liberace's polygamist cult."

    (More photos from series HERE.)

  • This time, last year (via Photojojo's Time Capsule).  Please note:  The peonies are nowhere near ready to bloom, much less falling over from their own weight as in the photo above, because the weather has been entirely different this spring.

  • I haven't had anything cohesive to blog about, so I leave you with random thoughts from X ...

    • Did you tap the matrix that is life? Did you use a cheat code? HOW did you get a FOURTH piece of bacon?!!!?!
    • We need to trim Nef's claws. Notice that I said 'we' and not 'I', and by 'we', I mean you.
    • I have come up with several titles for myself, most recently "Master of the Audible Question Mark".
    • Ack!! Those evil Irish dancers will be there ... my NEMESES!!!
    • Tim Gunn is crying because YOU DIDN'T ... MAKE IT WORK.

  • I had a girls' day with my sister.  I took her to Sundance Cinema (her first time) to see Sex and the City, which was her favorite show on television.  Afterward, we went to Hubbard Avenue Diner, where I always get the seared tuna sandwich with feta-dill sauce.  I'm going to attempt to recreate that at home.  Yum.

X had a girls' day with her cousin.  I don't know what they did here at the house other than game, game, game.  Geek minds think alike.
